Some Surprises in League Competition FOLDING’S FIRST WIN The association, football game 3 in the Manaanatu. produced some surprises on Saturday, when the league competition was continued. Playing at Feilding the Rangers (P.N.) team were easily defeated by the home side while at -North street park, after a hard fought battle, Athletic just managed to turn the tables on St. Andrew’s by ono goal to -nil. Flock House was drawn, to meet R.S.A. at Bulls but the ox-soldiers did not make the trip and the former eleven thus won by default. Athletic Successful. St. Andrews won the toss and Athletic (black) set the leather going for the first half, which produced no score. The blue and whites immediately adopted defensive tactics and it was not long beforo Tarrant, in goal, was called up to save. St. Andrews appeared to have a chance however, after ten minutes of hard going, McSheffery then breaking away and getting within 10 yards when ho slipped and lost possession. Both sides were now playing ,a hard game but it was not until after the lemons that Wiatt drew blood for Athletic. St. Andrews had been experiencing trouble from Travers, whose shot at goal was disallowed for offside tactics, when Watt came again to test the goalie. Tarrant cleared and punted well'out for the blacks to return and giving the last-mentioned player the opportunity to send the ball into the net-.
