MANAWATU WINTER MEETING
The Manawatu Racing Club’s Winter meeting will be concluded at Awapuni tb-day. At the time of going to press the prospects are that the .club will be favoured with fino weather and a much larger attendance than on Thursday. The course was in good order for tho opening day, but should be better still for to-day. Tho acceptapces are very good and interesting racing is assured. THE FIELDS. FLAXBOURNE HUNTERS’ HURDLE HANDICAP, of 100 sovs.; about LJ miles. Powhiri 11 9 Trouble 913 Bisk 10 10 Mandate 912 Huirangi Hinatore 9 7 Girl 10 10 Calculation 9 7 Maidos 10 0 Eight horses have accepted for the Flaxbourne Hunters’ Hurdles. Tho topweight, Powhiri, did not start on Thursday, but Risk, Huirangi Girl, Maidos auci Mandate got amongst the money. Risk carried 9.9 to victory in tho Hunt Cup (M miles), but was in receipt of 131bs. from Huirangi Girl though 100 yards clear at tho finish. Maidos carried 10.2 and was two lengths behind Huirangi Girl and Trouble was well back fourth. Mandate (9.12) was close up third in the lliwitca Hurdles. Tho public will probably give most support to Mandate (the bracket) and Huirangi Girl. RANGIOTU HANDICAP (hack cons.), of 100 sovs.; 6 furlongs. Ll.vn Dhu is in with 10.3 and is meeting Dis. rnnk on a stono better terms and with two furlongs further to go Evening I-loro finished third to Disrank on Thursday and will have to improve on his run. Beaumont, one of the fresh horses, is reported to have been going along well in work and must not bo overlooked. When the machine closes the order of favouritism may be Llyn Dhu, Mister Gamp anil Beaumont. NEWBURY HANDICAP, of 200 sovs.; 1 milo, 1 furlong. Mr. A. Lilc's gelding Omeo Avas the ruling favourite for the Grand National Steeplechase, but his run in the Awapuni Steeplechase, in AA'hich he came down after half the journey had been completed, will probably send him back in the betting. However, he apparently suffered no ill-effects of his fall and avii 1 be a starter in the Longburn Hurdle Handicap to-day. Omeo is by Quarantine out of Mutioness and Avas seven years old yesterday. Ho is trained at Ncav Plymouth by W. F. Mantle.
