Halcombe.

From Our Own'Correspondcnt. Electric light has been installed in the Halcombe school, and will be of great benefit for evening functions. Mr. and Mrs. W. Davies arc spending a vacation in Auckland. Mrs. C. Campbell has returned from i an enjoyable visit to Auckland, i Mr. C. Cooksley, of the postal staff, ! has been transferred to Rangiotu, Mr. Brady, of Rangiotu, filling tho vacancy at Halcombe. Mr. and Mrs. Pratt, of Longburn, arc spending a few days in tho district. Tho settlers at tho lower end of Mongoarc road have now been linked up with the electric power system. Euchre and Dance In the hall on Wednesday evening the Athletic Hockey and Football Clubs held a dance in honour of Mr. CY Cooksley, who is shortly leaving the district. The hall was.attractively decorated with the colours of both eiutfe. A professional orchestra provided delightful music for tho function, while Mr. G. Burgess made a capable M.C. In tho euchre tournament Miss M. Anderson and Mr. A. Siegel were the prizewinners, Mrs. W. Clapham and Mr. .Marshall receiving consolation awards. There was a fair attendance of the general public, including visitors from Marton, Stanway and Feilding, and altogether a very pleasant evening was spent. At a suitable interval, Mr. W. S. Page, president of tho Football Club, on behalf of the combined clubs, pre-, sented Mr. Cooksley with a pocket wal-’ let as a small token of the- esteem in which he is held. Mr. Page referred to the valued assistance, Mr. Cooksley-had rendered the clubs in his capacity as secretary, and to his obliging and cheerful disposition as a member of the post-, al staff, which would long bo remembered by tho people of Halcombe. . Mr. Cooksley suitably responded, expressing his thanks for the gift and for the eulogistic references, to himself.
