Spring Fashions
Winter will soon be over and for Spring this year there will he a wonderful choice both in materials and styles for us to choose from. One thing is certain and that is, that dress* es of all types will be a little logger for street wear and very much more so for evening. Paris is making an attempt to bring in a short elbow sleeve for afternoon frocks. The long limbed silhouette can be varied so extensively; bolero and cape ideas, sleeves that flare at the ends to match the dress, bertho and scarf col* lars, also norraw frilled ones, the handkerchief idea has developed into a broad scarf-collar knotted attractively on the bodice and with pointed ends. A flat circular frill or a fichu effect is another variation. Belts are in again and this time arc to bo seen at the natural waist line. With the coming of the princess gown and moulded bodice the waist line in many cases has dropped below the knees and from there flared out. For day wear the uneven hem line is not pronounced and there is quite a tendency in many of the new model evening frocks to straighten the hem, the princess type seems to demand it. Pointed and irregular seaming are features that admit of much variety and a new idea is the girdle waist which is obtained by graceful draping, shirring, etc. Jackets, too, will be much favoured, hip or three-quarter length, and many very abbreviated ones. Washing materials in cottons will certainly benefit by this idea and where sleeveless frocks are worn will give a smart finishing touch. The suspender skirt affords some striking ways of colour contrast in frocking and necessitates bright buttons to trim. Costume blouses feature frills, jabots and fichu effect. Very clever is the ultra sympathetic handling of line in the new models which are so suitable to the older-woman and
which by clever designing, and use of contrasting materials contrive very successfully to hido the large hip line and to give length which is essential to many. A new fabric is much used in fleck and spotted variety almost transparent yet are of the tweed variety. All varieties of pleats are to be noted but one sided effects are considered smarter in jumper suits and suspender pkirts.
