Imperial Scientific Research Conferences
DR. MARSDEN TO ATTEND. Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, Last Night. The Government has decided to scad Dr. E. Marsdcn, D.Sc., Secretary of the Department of Scientific and Industrial Research, to England to attend an important research conference to bo held in conjunction with the Imperial Conference. Dr. Marsdcn will leave for London about the middle of next month. In announcing this, the Prime Minister (Hon. G. W. Forbes) said that apart from the questions relating to scientific and other investigations of considerable value to New Zealand, the research policy of the whole Empire would conic up for review at the conferences.
At the present time New Zealand was receiving from the Empire Marketing Board useful subsidies and grants and as further activities in this direction were to be determined, it was essential that Dr. Marsdcn be present to watch New Zealand’s interests and make the best arrangements possible for co-operation and assistance. It is understood that Dr. Marsdcn is leaving New Zealand early in order to attend the opening of the first of the preliminary conferences, that financed and convened by the Empire Marketing Board to deal with highly important questions affecting wool. At this conference Dr. Marsdcn will have associated with him Mr. D. Iv. Sidey, of Lincoln College, who has already arrived in England with supplies of 70 different lots of Corricdnlc fleeces and eight lots of Romney fleeces from different flocks.
Following the wool conference, Dr. Marsden will be available in an advisory capacity to attend the other research conferences io be held in eonjunction with the Imperial Conference. Among the subjects to be considered is that of meat, cheese and 'fruittransportation.
