From Our* Own Correspondent. The m.v, Foxton arrived on Tuesday night from Lyttelton. She was ready to depart on Wednesday, but owing to adverse conditions at the heads will bo compelled to remain in port until tho weather moderates. On Saturday afternoon members of the Herrington Golf Club journeyed to Bulls to play the Bulls Club, which won most of the games after an enjoyable afternoon’s play. Results arc as follow, Foxton players, being mentioned first: JNIj. Christie lost to Thompson; L. C. Bryant lost to Mitchell; YY’in. Trueman lost, to K. Dalrymplc; YV. 11. Walton lost to T. A. Willis; M. B. Bcrgin lost to Rcnwick; Pedersen, junr., defeated Olsen; Pedersen, senr., lost to J. S. Triekcr; Tait defeated Petrie; J. Newton, senr., lost to Purcell; F. A. Mason lost to P. YY’hlskcr; YV. Boss lost to Bertram; J. Newton, junr., lost to Pritchard; W. Roach lost to Daniclls; C. M. Hewlett lost to J. Trickcr. automatic telephone system and enables the operator on duty in the local exchange to switch a local number direct to the number called for in Palmerston North. Undoubtedly tho new service, with its saving of time, will be greatly appreciated by local subscribers. The final games for the aggregate prizes in (lie Foxton Surf and Life Having Club’s euchre tournament were played on Tuesday evening, when the prizes were won by Mrs. Chaffcy and Mr. K. Parkin, each with a total of .11 games. The winners of the evening’s play were: Miss D. Brown 1, Airs. Chaffcy 2; Mr. E. Parkin 1, Mr. J. Broad 2. At the conclusion of play supper was dispensed by club members. It has been decided to allow some weeks to elapse before the next tourney is commenced. Croquet A t the Foxton Croquet Club’s annual meeting, the annual report stated: "The club experienced a very successful year, though tho membership was lower than usual. Tho Wednesday tournament, after keen competition throughout the season, resulted in a close finish in the B grade, in which Mrs. Bryant gained first placo with 174 points, Mrs. Huntley being second w'ith 158. Airs. E. Owen, with 298 points, won tho A grade, Airs. M. E. Perreau being runner-up with 201. Play was interesting throughout the handicap singles competition, which was won by Mrs. R. Owen. Keen interest wms shown in the Stewart. Shields and Nyo Mallets challenge games. Owing to the loss of so many members during the year the club was unable to send a team to the Alanawatu inter-club matches, but hopes to bo represented in the tournament this year." The report and balance sheet, which disclosed a credit of £4 2/5, were adopted. Tho following officers were elected: President, Airs. AI. E. Perreau (re-clcctcd); committee, Alcsdamcs E.

YV. Huntley, R. Bryant, E. AI. Parkcs and Aliss Spoil's; secretary, Airs. R. Owen (rc-clcctcd). The Bowling Club wrote stating that the club would be required to pay £lO during the coming season towards the caretaker’s salary. This was agreed to, and it was resolved to request tho Bowling Club to have the croquet lawn top-dressed in time for the next playing season.
