Feilding Borough Council

MONTHLY MEETING. The usual monthly meeting of the Feilding Borough Council was held last evening, the Mayor, Mr C. E. Taylor, presiding. There wiero also present: Crs. E. Fair, T. Collins, J. Coupe, F. S. Guy, D. Pryde, A. C. McCorkiuclale and H. Stewart. Accounts amounting to £274 19s 2d were passed for payment and accounts amounting to £lOls 11s 7d, paid since tko last meeting were confirmed. A complaint received regarding wandering stock in North street was referred to the borough ranger for action.

In reply to a letter from the Vestry of St. Johns Church regarding the , playing of billiards of Good Friday, it was resolved to intimate that when amendments aro being made to tho Borough Bylaws in the near future tho billiard room by-laws will be i amended in the direction of prohibiting billiards being played on Good Friday, Christmas Day and Anzuc Day. The Feilding District Nurse Association was granted permission to hold a 1 street stall in July. : It was agreed to make application ; to the Government for a supply of notices regarding the protection of native birds to be displayed in the parks in Feilding. The petition from the householders of Owen street requesting the asphalting of the footpath was referred to the works committee for consideration. A suggestion from tho Jubilee Institute for tho Blind that Feilding might invito the blind boys’ band to visit tiie town dining the proposed tour, v/as referred to the band committee for favourable consideration, the Mayor expressing the view that everything possible should be done to assist those so afflicted. In connection with a letter from the Feilding branch of tho R.S.A. offering to make a donation for relief work for unemployed returned soldiers subject to the council granting a subsidy on the same lines as last year, it was resolved to accept tho offer and refer the matter to a special committee with power to act, the engineer to prepare details of suitable work. A letter was received from Mr F. G. Guy, Feilding’s representative on the Manawiatu-Oroua Power Board, advising that it was impossible to obtain any reduction in the minimum lighting charges owing to the relations of the board with Palmerston North and in view of the existing constitution. In fact, nothing could be expected by way of reduced charges for a.t least the next live years. Mr Guy went on to refer to a proposal for the amalgamation of power boards which ho eonsidcred would tend to reduce overhead charges and possibly bring benefits to consumers. It was resolved to thank Mr Guy for his report, and to express the hope that he would continue with his good work. Or. Collins reported on the regional planning conference held in Palmerston North and was accorded the thanks of the council.
