Why Not Shift Feilding Station ?
MENACE OF LEVEL CROSSING. Discussing the recoinnieudiilioiis of the Public Works •Department relative to the Ivimboltou road level crossing at last evening's meeting of the Deriding Borough Council, Cr, T. Collins said that the department was only playing with the position. What was really required was the shifting of the station further south to remove the
menace arising from shunting over the crossing. That lie considered was the vital matter, but with the railways running at a terrific loss he could not suggest that this proposal be placed before the department. Sooner or later, however, it would have to come and the station could be so shifted as to provide for the connecting up of I'ergUiSison and Bailey streets.
Cr. A. C. MlciCorkindalo said that the suggestion of shifting the station had been made before and was a solution to the trouble-, but he would not be in favour of another level crossing being provided by connecting up the streets named by tho previous speaker. Cr. F. S. Guy thought that if the Gladstone street crossing was ©lo:*3cl, the shunting could be done on the station property and so avoid the frequent holdups on Kimboltou road. He moved that the Mayor and Or .Collins wait on the Hon. J. G. Cobbo to solicit his help in having something done. Tho Mayor, Mr. 0. E. Taylor, was not inclined to proceed with the proposal without having time to fully consider the whole matter. The matter was net seconded and discussion lapsed after the council decided to'refer certain matters in the .Department's report to the works committee for action
