Manawatu Branch of Dairy Farmers' Union
MONTHLY MEETING The Manawatu branch executive ot the Dairy Farmers’ Union met yesterday. Thero w-cre present Messrs. Nci) Campbell (in the chair), F. Lcgg, J. D, Balmcr, A. Balmcr, hr. Richardson, .1. Dawson, J. Boyce, L. Poupard, W. P. Bickers, W. Ct. Short, 11. Dewar and G. L. Wagstaff. The chairman reported that, after paying its levy to the Farmers’ Union and all expenses, the branch would be about £2O worse off than at the annual meeting last year. At the same time, they still had a credit balance of £270 in the bank. Mr. J, Boyce expressed the opinion that it was fully time the Dominion body undertook some organising work. The branches had been paying 7/G in the £1 levy and it was time that something was done. Mr. J. McLindcn, of the staff of Massey College, wrote accepting the invitation of the branch to lecture at tho forthcoming Winter Show. Tho following table of provincial membership of tho New Zealand Farmers’ Union was submitted: Auckland, 4678; Otago, 1901; Southland, 1766; North Canterbury, 1388; Wairarapa, 108 S; North Taranaki, 812; Southern Hawke’s Bay, 591; South Canterbury, 53,"; Wellington, 532, South Taranaki, -187; Poverty Bay, 481; Hawke’s Bay, 478; Manawatu, 438; Mid-Canterbury, 411; Wanganui, 359; Nelson, 334; Dairy Farmers’ Union, 301; Marlborough, 210; North Otago, 207; Golden Bay, 190; West Coast, 137; Wairoa, 94; Pelorus District, 73. A deputation from the ManawatuOroua branch of the Pig Breeders’ Association waited upon the meeting asking for financial assistance in carrying out educational work in connection with the show bacon and pork classes. Tho meeting granted the request.
