Free School Books in Necessitous Cases
CONCESSION WELL RECEIVED. Per Press Association. WELLINGTON, Last Night. Fairly extensive use is being made of the recent provision by the State of free secondary school books in necessitous cases. “The extension of the concession of free school books in necessitous cases to secondary schools has naturally resulted in an increase in the expenditure on books,” said the Director of Education (Mr. T. B. Strong) when discussing the matter to-day. “I do not think, kow r evcr, that the increase in claims for free books indicates an increase in poverty throughout New Zealand but is merely tho result of tho greater publicity given to this concession,” ho added.
