Trotting Control i AN APPEAL UPHEL. For Press Association. CHRISTCHURCH, Last Night. The appeal of A. R. Saunders against the disqualification 'by tho Thames Trotting Club of tho horse Lard Haldane was uphold by the Board of the w Zealand Trotting Association. The board directed that tho stakes be paid out in accordance with the judge's original placings, and that the club pay appellant’s costs, £lO ss. In future the New Zealand Trotting Association will not pass any programmes in which there arc fractional limits. This course was decided upon after a complaint had been received from Mrs. I. E. Swcctapplc concerning oho handicapping- of her horse Warplane at the Thames Trotting Club's meeting.

The meeting approved of- tho suggestion that a remit bo sent to the next conference that no one be allowed to stand by a horse’s head when a race is being started.

GOVERNMENT’S TOLL PROM TOTALISATOR. Per Press Association. AUCKLAND, Last Night. The Auckland Racing Club’s taxation on tho Easter meeting totalled £11,694. including totalisator £3S3S, dividend £6907, stakes £532, amusement tax,£ll7. HOW GREAT AUTUMN HANDICAP WAS RUN. Dolomite and Jaloux wore scratched for the Great Autumn Handicap, leaving nine runners, with Historic, Merry Damon, Arikiwai and Paquito strongly supported. Latin Quarter soon took charge from Gay Crest, Merry Damon, and Money Mine. They ran like this to the nine furlong post, but Money Mine then ran into third place. Historic, Paquito, and Arikiwai were veil hack, with Beatown last. There was Uttlo change till six furlongs from name, here Ankiw&i started to move up ,and racing for the straight he ran into third place, Merry Damon being fourth, with Latin Quarter and Gay Crest still showing the way. Gay Crest took charge when the straight was reached, with Arikiwai and Merry Damon not far away. Merry Damon {■lit in a good run over the last furlong. He gradually overhauled Gay Crest, who hung on long enough to win by a short head. Arikiwai was two lengths away, a length in front of Latin Quarter, who beat Historic by a heart. Paquito looked like making a run at the

entrance to the straight, but ho failed to come on. The winner registered a fine performance. He was out helping to set a solid pace all the way, and finished on well. He has been a great bargain for Dr. M. G. Louisson, who bought him after the mid-summer meeting in February. Merry Damon ran a great race and possibly was a trifle unlucky. Arikiwai also went well and might have done even better had he been allowed to run along in the early stages, jjatin Quarter just failed in the straight. Historic ran a fair race. Paquito seemed to bo going well at the entrance to the straight but failed j to come on. The judicial stewards considered an objection by T. Green, rider of Merry Damon, against Gay Crest, ridden by G, Humphreys, for crossing near Cutt’s Corner, the ground of the objection being that the intc’-fercncc cost Merry Damon the Tacc. The stewards decided that the evidence was not sufficient to sustain the charge of crossing. Challenge Stakes.

Greenaway was tho only scratching for the Challenge Stakes, Jaloux being a solid favourite. Spoon was' first out, but Charmaino soon headed her, Adelphi and Chrysology being handy. Charmaino was just clear of Chrysology at the f;vc furlong post, with Spoon and Adelphi in close attendance. Chrysology retired at the entrance to tho straight, and a little further on Spoon Went aftfir Charmaino, whilo most of the others were bunched not far away. Spoon took the measure of Charmaino a hundred yards from the post, and won by a neck. Lineage, who got off slowly, came on with a good run to get third money, beating Stealth by half a length, while Royal Duke and Jaloux were almost on terms. The winner and runner-up are both brilliant youngsters. Spoon was purchased at Mr. Balgoty’s sale in the morning by Mr. G. P. Payne, who thus got a quick return of most of the 750 guineas he paid for the Tea Tray filly. She will be a payable proposition for her new owner next season.
