Good Prospects for Shooting Wild Duck
SEA3ON OPENS ON MAY 1. With excellent prospects for a firstrate season, sportsmen in the Manawatu are preparing for the opening, on May 1, of the duck shooting season. The Acclimatisation Society’s ranger, Mr. T. Androws, reports that there is perhaps more duck iu the district than has been the case for a number of years previously and, with additional falls of rain, tho chances of good bags should improve. Many of the areas are dry as yet and, although the larger waters are in a satisfactory state, the smaller lagoons are holding very little water, so that rain would be most beneficial to sportsmen. The same restriction? as hitherto will be imposed on bags, the limit being fixed at five swan and 20 duck. Should tho maximum number of swan be se« cured, however, the number of duck is restricted to 15.
Native game will be in season until June 30 and imported game until July 31, thus allowing two months for tho former and three months for the latter, which includes quail and hares. This means that there will be a month more of duck-shooting this season than last. It will bo illegal for any shooting to start before 6 o’clock on the morning of May 1. No limit has been placed on quail
