King Tut’s Treasures Will Remain in Egypt
LOOKING FOR ALEXANDER’S GOLD OOFFIN. ' HOWARD CARTER’S NEXT QUEST. United Press Association. —By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright. Received Sunday, 9 p.m. LONDON, April 20. Not a single one of the treasures Howard Carter found in Tutankhamen’s tomb will bo brought to England. ' It had been hoped tho British Museum might obtain something in recognition of the fact that an Englishman discovered tho tomb but JMr. Carter says the Egyptian Government has decided that nothing must leave Egypt. It is making monetary a settlement which Mr. Carter expected would be favourable. "
Wonders greater than thoso found in the tomb of Tutankhamen are likely to be revealed if Howard Carter succeeds in his attempt to discover the gold coffin of Alexander tho Great in Alexandria. Mr. Carter, has arrived in London, says an effort to locate and explore Alexander’s tomb will bo made after tho completion of his work at Tutankhamen's tomb when the Egyptian excavation season opens in October. Ho anticipates a lon'g, difficult and expensive quest. Tho main difficulty will be tho location of the burial spot owing to tho fact that Alexandria has been so much overbuilt. Tho preliminary* work will consist of sinking tubes whereby ho hopes to striko the tombs of lesser dignitaries which spread in a wide circle, gradually working to tho centre where it was tho custom to bury royalties. It will bo the most important work ever undertaken in Egypt.
