Vegetables Taken From Chinese Shop

Henry Sheppard, aged 00, who was arrested on Saturday- morning and charged with stealing- vegetables to the value of 9d., the property of Joe Kwong Lee, fruiterer, appeared before Mr. J. L. Stout, S.AL, later, in the morning at the Palmerston North Alagistratc’s Court. Senior-Sergeant Whitcliouse said that for some months past complaints had been lodged of vegetables being removed from the shop fronts in tho early mornings. Accused was caught in the act of committing just such an offence. He had 10/44 in his possession when taken, in charge, but stated that he was unemployed and had an invalid wife dependent upon him for food and attention. "It will never occur again,” accused told the Alagistrate. Sheppard was convicted and ordered to come up for sentence if, called upon within six months, he being also ordered to defray the cost of tho vegetables.
