MANAWATU EASTER BOWLING TOURNEY

Reaches Sixth Round WELLINGTON AND P.N. ONLY TWO UNBEATEN RINKS Three more rounds of tho Manawatu Bowling Centre’s Easter tournament were completed on Saturday and play will resume this morning on tho seventh roupd. In the A section, Thorndon, Palmerston North, and Masterton rinks are op oven terms for lh‘s£ place. Woodvillc, Lower Hutt, Palmerston North, Manawatu and Feildiug are on even terms at the hctld of the B section, while in C section Palmerston North and Victoria (Wellington) rinks are leading. O section is the only one of the four in which rinks have gone through without a loss, both tho Palraorston North and Wellington rinks which head tho aggregate being in this happy position.

A Section, fourth round: Neilscn (Masterton) beat A. C. Feast (Garter--2 is 1(5;. This was a well contested match in which Carterton led to tho tenth head, fell behind over the lLh and 12th, drew level at the loth and finally went down over the last five heads. F. Britland (Pahiatua) beat G W. Wardrup (Woodville) 17—7. An easy win. N. H. Nash (P.N.) beat G. Munro (Thorndon) 18—lo. Nash was down 10—8 at the eighth but drew level at tbe ninth and after establishing a lead won out by a fair margin. L. Sparrow (Terrace End) beat R. Barnes (Manawatu) 20—16. Manawatu won the first two beads but fell behind at the. fourth until it recovered to stand 16—14 at the 16th. A four af the 17th with a two at tho 18tn gavo Sparrow the game. J. S. Stevens (Northern) beat P. Rabonc (F-N.) 28 17. This was tho closest game ot the fourth round and necessitated an extra head. Rabone led lo—B at the 12th but Stevens’ rink played gTeat bowls and drew level 17 all at the 18th. Stevens scored one on the deciding head. C. T. B. Norwood (Victoria) beat H. Stone (Petone Central) 23 12. The rinks were on even terms fifth, ninth and 14th heads but Norwood scored two, four, two and three on the last four heads. Fifth Round: P. Rabone (P.N.) beat N. H. Nash (P.N.) 22—20. This was a close game, in which the points were eveu on the tenth head but Rabone pulled up over the last three heads. R. Barnes (Manawatu) beat Neilsen (Masterton) 16—14. Another close game in which Masterton led to the ninth head but fell away over tho final heads. L. Sparrow (Terraco End) beat F. Britland (Pahiatua) 24—14. A comfortable win. H. Stone (Petone) beat G. W. 'Wardrop (Woodville) 25 —17, Petone scored well in the first heads and Woodville never caught UP- G. Munro (Thorndon) beat C. T. B. Norwood (Victoria) 19—16. Victoria ]e 14—13 on the 13th but a four, three and two, put Thorndon ahead over the final heads. T. G. Stevens (Northern) beat A. C. Feast (Carterton) 22—13. Carterton led 13—12 on the 14th but a five on the 15th gave Northern a lead which they did not lose. Sixth Round: G. Munro (Thorndon) beat G. Wardrop (Woodville) 20—11, P. Rabono (P.N.) beat C. T. B. Norwood (Victoria) 23—18. N. H. Nash (P.N.) beat A. C. Feast (Carterton) 25—7. L. Sparrow (Terrace End) beat H. Stone (Petone Central) 25—12, Xeilsen (Masterton) beat J. G. Stevens (Northern) 21—12. Section B, fourth round: W. B. Crump (P.N.) beat E. Bolton (Victoria) 23—8. A Tunaway victory, in which the Palmerston North rink led from the first head.' M. Pickering (Woodville) beat J. Kershaw (Manawatu) 25—20. A well fought match in which the Woodville rink established an early lead that proved just .too much for Manawatu. W. R. Wenham (Feilding) beat H. Hall (Carterton) 18—17. The Carterton rink had victory snatched from its grasp after leading to the 14th head. J. B. Re:d (Lyall Bay) beat P.. O. Skoglund (P.N.) 27rA-13. Skoglund's rink led at the sixth head but thereafter fell steadily back in a good match. Slinn (Lower Hutt) beat J. Tantrum (Takaro) 20—14. Lower Hutt took the lead early in the match and maintained it right through. H. A. Martin (Waipukurau) beat J. Davidson (Terrace End) 19—16. Terrace. End drew up towards the final stages but with, the score board reading 13—16 at the

15th. head, could not pull the match out of tho fire.

Fifth Bound: H. A. Marton (Waipukurau) beat K. Kershaw (Manawatu) 20—18. A good match in which the narrow margin of difference represented tho merits of the opposing rinks. Kershaw led 14—8 at the ninth head but Martin drew ahead 17—15 at. the 13th. At tho 16th, the score was 18 all, but Martin won tho final two heads with a single in each case. F. Bolton (Victoria) beat P. O. Skoglund (P.N.) 18—12. The game was very even until the 13tli head, where the rinks were ten all, but Skoglund conic! not survive tho unlucky number and a five to Bolton on tho 14th put Victoria ahead. W. B. Wenham (Fcilding) beat J. Davidson (Terrace End) 26—5. J. Tantrum (Takaro) beat H. Hall (Cartorton) 17—3. M. Pickering (Woodville) beat J. B. Bcid (Lyall Bay) 14 —10. The rinks were ten all on tho 14th, but Bcid did not add further to his score. Slinn (Lower Hutt) beat W. B. Crump (P.N.), 15—7. Slinn forged ahead from the 12th head. Sixth Bound: P. Skoglund (P.N.) beat M. Pickering (Woodville) 15—14. Slinn (Lower Hutt) beat E. Bolton (Victoria) 16 —14. W. B. Crump (P.N.) beat H. Hall (Carterton) 20—19. T. B. Beid (Lyall Bay) beat 11. Tho Wellington rink could not maintain the advantage, however, and fell away over the last four heads. J. Pearson (Woodville) beat J. M. Thomson (Foxton) 31 —12. A runaway victory. A. Greenwood (Dannevirko) beat A. P. Stuart (Northern) 23—18. After a bad start, Northern led 18—17 at the 14th head but fell away over the concluding four. J. B. Conder (Island Bay) boat L. Arnott (P.N.) 13—10. A low scoring game in which Conder led by a small margin right through. B. Bamsay (P.N.) beat W. E. Monk (Levin) 24—16. The Levin rink led 16—14 at the 14th head, but never increased its score over the next four heads. E. Anderson (Terrace End) beat J. M. Brackenridgc (Victoria) 20—8. An easy win. Fifth Bound: B. The rinks were even on the tenth and 14th heads but Anderson pulled up on the final heads. Section D, fourth round: E. BaTy (P.N.) beat H. Fenwick (Northern) 29—14. Northern led 6—3 at the third but fell steadily behind over the succeeding 15 heads. J. Porteous (Wellington) beat W. Southward (Buananga) 22—10. An easy Win. W. Boacli (Oroua) beat C. Pickering (P.N.) 29—11. Oroua led right through. G. H. Noad (Lyall Bay) beat G. Corbridgo (Manawatu) 19 —15. Corbridge established an early lead but Noad drew level at the 12th and thereafter went ahead to win comfortably. J. Harp (Carterton) beat H. Johnson (Terrace End) 16—13. After an even battle over tho first five heads, Harp established a lead and maintained it by a narrow* margin. Fifth round: W. Boach (Oroua) beat G. H. Noad (Lyall Bay) 26 —10. Oroua led 20—2 at the tenth head and nevejlooked back. H. Johnson (Terrace End) beat H. Fenwick (Northern) 18— 13. Terrace End led by a fair margin right through. J. Harp (Carterton) beat G. Corbridge (Manawatu) 19—17. Manawatu led 17 —11 at the 13th but at tho 17th Carterton drew level and pulled the game out of the fire. E. Bary (Palmerston North) beat W. Southward (Buananga) 20—10. A comfortable win in which Palmerston North was never challenged seriously. J. Porteous (Wellington) beat C- Pickering (P.N.) 23—16. The rinks were even on the ninth head and again on the 15th but a six on the 17th put Wellington in a position to win the match. Sixth round: E. Bary (P.N.) beat C. Pickering (P.N.) 19—12. W.
