Danish Exports Grow, Imports Become Less
SATISFACTORY POSITION COPENHAGEN, March 21. According to a statement by the Council for Agriculture, Denmark’s exports of agricultural products for 1929 amounted to about 1,280,000,000 crowns or rather more than £04,000,000, an increase of £1,800,000 compared with the previous year. This represents about 80 per cent, of Denmark’s total exports during last year, which amounted to 1,000,000,000 crowns, or rather more than £80,000,000, against £77,200,000 during the preceding year. The imports amounted to 1,680,000,000 crowns, which is about £1,000,000 less than for the preceding year. During 1929 there was an increase in the exports of butter from 148,000 tons to 158,000 tons; in cheese from 6000 tons to 0500 tons; in the number of live pigs from 45,000 to 51,500; in herds of cattle from 265,000 to 287,000, the increase mostly coming upon Italy and Czccho-Slovakia. The export of eggs was about the same at 39,500,000 score, and the export of bacon receded from 272,000 to 250,000 tons. The ‘prices during 1929 showed an average decrease of 4 per cent, on butter and an increase of 16 per cent, on bacon compared with the preceding year. The different foreign markets have respectively absorbed about the same quantities as in 1928. Imports of raw materials for agriculture from abroad amounted to 320,000,000 crowns, about £3,000,000 less than during tho preceding year, leaving a surplus on the exports of agricultural products of £48,000,000.
