NANKING’S DEFENCES. GENERAL HOSTILITIES WITHIN THREE WEEKS. United Press Association. —By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright. SHANGHAI, March 26. Nanking’s seeming' indifference towards the combined revolt of Yen HsiShan and Feng Yu-hsiung is merely superficial. Extensive preparations to resist- the Northern offensive aro reported now to bo completed. Foreign observers intimato that general hostilities will break out within three weeks. Nanking is confident on victory, relying on Chiang Kai-shek’s defences to defeat tbe anti-Government movement. According to the latest information received from tho Tsinpu railway and the Hankow fronts, the National forces have built an elaborate system of defences extending from Suchow along tbe entire strategic front, and the Tsinpu line construction work is being completed. Three months previously, following the mutiny at Shihyusan and Pukow in December, defences were arranged under the direction of German military advisers.
