Swimming Clubs’ Championships

Y.M.O.A.’S COMPLETED. The Y.M.C.A. Swimming Club championships have been completed and resulted in Miss R. Linklater winning tho ladies’ championship, and J. Coates tho men’s. The ladies’ events were for tho United Friendly Societies’ Dispensary Cup, donated by the manager (Mr. D. A. Smellie), who is a member of the club. The racing resulted as follows: —25 yards: Miss J. Burrell (7 secs.) 1, Miss E. Sutton (2 secs.) 2, Miss V. Jones (ser.) 3. 33 1-3 yards: Miss M. Linklater (8 secs.) 1, Miss R. Linklater (5 secs.) 2, Miss V. Jones (scr.) 3. 50 yards: Miss R. Linklater (§ secs.) 1, Miss E. Sutton (scr.) 2, Miss J., Christie (12 secs.) 3. Misses Burrell and M. Linklater (on 6 sees.) came first and second respectively, but were disqualified for beating the call off the mark. The following aro the points: Misses R. Linklater 8 (winner), E. Sutton 6, M. Linklater and J. Burrell 5. The final race over 100 yards for tho men’s trophy, tho Eyre Cup, resulted: J. Coates (7 secs.) 1, C. McMinn (3 secs.) 2, T. Mellowship (scr.) 3. Time, 83 3-5 secs.. The points are as follow for the series: J. Coates 11 (winner), C. McMinn 6, K. Robinson 5. Palmerston North Club.

Tho Palmerston North Swimming Club championships arc in progress and tho points so far, are as follow: Devine Cup, for competition among lady members: Misses R. Freeman 5, N. Milverton 3, E. Jones, N. Hosking, —. Hefford 2. The Clere Cup for competition among the men has one raco yet to be completed. The points to date are: J. Shand 4, T. Edlin 3, J. Purvis 3, L. Oliver and M. Osborne 1. There arc two more races for tho Hunter Cup. Those successful with the points are: J. Purvis 4, M. Osborne, G. Fitzsimmons 3, J. Shand 2. There are two moro races to be contested for the Devine Cup and an endeavour will be made to complete all championships by the end of this month. The Apollo Swimming Club will not hold any club championships.
