N.Z. Second Only to Ulster in Loyalty
CRAIG AVON ON EMPIRE TRADE. BRITISH PEOPLE NEGLECT WONDERLANDS UNDER FLAG. United Press Association—By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright. LONDON, March 16. Lord Craigavon, Prime Minister of Northern Ireland, arrived from New Zealand to-day.
Lord Craigavon stated in an interview that he was greatly interested to learn of Mr. Stanley Baldwin’s proposal for closer trade relations within the Empire. Such a policy would be acclaimed in New Zealand, which was second only to Ulster in its loyalty and Imperialistic aims. Lord Craigavon added that he would like to see an effort mado to promote travel within the Empire on British ships. Our people had unfortunately drifted into the Continental holiday habit, neglecting the Empire’s own wonderlands. If those who desired to winter abroad could be induced to go to tbe Antipodes they would not only be trading within the Empire, but also would be acquiring most valuable firsthand knowledge of their kith and kin overseas, which would strengthen the friendships on which the Empire was built.
