MILD WINTER CLOSES WITH STORMY BLAST

An unusually mild winter throughout Britain ended in a bout of wintry weather, when spring ought to bo coming. in and tho worst blizzard occurred in Wales sinco 1917. All roads were blocked, hundreds of motor cars and omnibuses embedded in tho drifts and thousands of sheep buried in 24 hours. A snowstorm swept the lake district of Northumberland and did daningo estimated at £20,000 in the Midlands, where snow water caused tho culverts to collapse. Many houses were flooded after terrific rain storms in the Dublin district and many coastal districts were submerged, necessitating the use of row boats to rescuo the inhabitants. A heavy snowstorm ,at Birmingham caused the collapse of tho roof of a circus tent, on which a great mass had collected. Seventy of tho staff, who were working feverishly to support the roof, were forced to run for their lives and several were injured.
