Canada’s First Woman Appointee to Senate
PREFERS DOMESTIC DUTIES. United Press Association.—By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright. Received Sunday, 7 p.m. VANCOUVER, Feb. 15. Mrs. Norman F. Wilson, of Ottawa, the wife of a former member of the House of Commons and a daughter of the late Senator Robert Mackay, of Montreal, is the first woman appointed to the Canadian Senate under the Privy Council ruling that Canada has a right to appoint a woman to the Upper Chamber. She will be the Canadian delegate to the conference on the codification of international law at The Hague.
First Duty to Home Received Monday, 2 a.m. OTTAWA, Feb. 15. After accepting the first Canadian woman senatorship, Mrs. Norman F. Wilson, on reconsideration, has declined, declaring her first duty is to her home.
