Weather conditions at Wanganui on Saturday wire oppressive in the extreme, with a dissolving dampness which cleaved'up as the day wore on. The club had a good day’s sport to offer, nowfcver, and the attendance was of the usual dimensions. The contest between Cimabue and Paganelli was looked forward to with interest, victory going to the" Wellington candidate. Taneriri paid a big dividend when he beat Corifiax in the Earle Stakes and three first day winners in Autopay, Democratic and Limo Sin, won again. The course was slow. The tote handled £24,395, as against £28,577 10s for the second day last year. The total for the meeting was £50,339 10s, compared with £54,369 10s for the 1929 fixture, a decrease of £4030.

4 KEDDAR; A. B. Knight’s br.g., oyrs., 7.10 (S. Wilson) 3 Also started: 5 Freehold 7.13 (D. Farrell), 2 Acora car 7.12 (H. Goldfinch). Won by a head, three-quarters of a length. Acora was fourth. Time, 3.15 1-5.

How They Ran Autopay Opens. Awaken, the favourite for the Autumn Handicap, did not get any advantage from a straggling start and although she was in a good position on the turn, the effort left her without a gallop in the run home and she finished seventh. Blue Paper and Arisus got away early and led the field until the distance, when they were joined by Autopay, which went on to beat Arisus by half a length, with Blue Paper one and a half lengths further back. Equitant was fourth into the straight and finished in that position, while behind her followed Isa, Rose Lupin, Awaken and Treasury. First Money and Paiko were non-starters. Autopay’s double success stamps him as a very generous galloper, which should run out a strong six furlongs. Ruanui In Favour. Ruanui was made a £43 better favourite than Otairi for the Harrison Handicap, and the son of Limond turned the tables on the -winner of the Stewards’ Handicap, the latter being beaten back to fourth. Dolomite got chopped out at the start and Consent piloted Monsogne, Ruanui, Paitonu, Otairi and Star Area out of the straight. At the six furlong peg Monsogne had the best view of the course, and rounding the far bend, Consent and Monsogne were again in company, Paitonu and Ruanui next, with Dolomite and Otairi ahead of Star Area. Just before they came to the straight entrance, Monsogne, then lying third, fell and threw her rider badly. He sustained concussion. First into the straight were Consent, Paitonu and Ruanui. Tho favourite came on the outside of the others and went on to win decisively by half a length, with Paitonu one and a half lengths in front of Coiisent. Otairi -was fourth and Star Area and Dolomite next.

Cimabue’s Great Win. There was even wagering between the chances of Pnganelli and Cimabue in the Stakes. Hitherto in their meetings, the honours had been on the side of the Lord Quex gelding but everyone recognised that while Pnganelli was possibly slipping, Cimabtio was better than ever. When the -figures were balanced, Paganclli carried £639 and Cimabue, £573. Pnganelli drew the ace and Cimabue No. 3. Pnganelli was first away from Tenterden, Cimdbue and Jenny Diver and when they had gone two furlongs, the favourite was half a length in front of Tenterden, with Cimabue two lengths further back. Crossing the top, they were running head to tail in the same order. Pagan* elli was galloping well but Cimabue was going quite as well. The was still third as they turned into the straight but as soon as heads were in line for home, Cimabue came up t» Pnganelli and a great duel ensued till 30 yards from the post, when Cimabue’s victory was definite. He won by two lengths, with Tenterden five lengths bohind Pnganelli. The going favoured the winner more than Paganelli but Cimabue would almost certainly have won under any other conditions. ■ Democratic’s Double. ' Borsaleno was slightly more favoured than Democratic for the Hurdles. Over the first fence, Jokeform piloted Borsalcne, Democratic and Aurora Borealis, with Panorama last. This was still the order as they came to the straight the first time, where Jokeform was three lengths ahead of Borsalene, with Democratic two * lengths further back. As they ran out of the straight Aurora Borealis dropped to the rear. Jokeform and Borsalene were on terms a furlong further on and at the half mile the favourite had the running but with a further furlong covered, Democratic had hit the front, with Borsalene, Aurora Borealis and Jokeform next. Democratic was closely attended _ y Borsaleno all the way up the straight but a hard-riding finish saw the first day’s winner again take the honours from Borsafcne by a good two lengths, with Jokeform three lengths further back. Aurora Borealis was fourth and Panorama tailed off. Her Own Way. Big money came for Joyspear (£986) and My Own (£863) prior to the Okoia Hack race and the latter turned up an easy winner. Passing tise stand, where the field was bunched, the leading division included Joyspear, My Own, Thrift, Auctioneer, Warfille and Soviet. The last-named dived to the front and at the six furlong peg, had a good length’s advantage of Thrift,

with Joyspear and My Own next. Thrift then faded and crossing the top, Auctioneer and Kilorell were leading from My Own, Valma and Warfille, the favourite being in the ruck. My Own was just ahead of Auctioneer and Kiloroll at the straight entrance and went on to beat Kilorell by two lengths, with Auctioneer one and a half lengths away in third berth. Warliile and Thrift were together, next and Valma and Joyspear followed. “Certainty” Crashes.

There whs a crush to get on Corinax for the Earle Stakes, the Magpie gelding being at a vory cramped price, carrying £1173 of the pool, against £634 on In the Shade and £591 on Yoma. The result was a big upset, for the little fancied Taneriri won easily. The early leaders wore Cashier, Corinhx and Taneriri, tho last-named taking ehitrgc before they entered the straight from Corinax, Orazone, Cashier and In the Shade, with Shrewd at the rear. Passing the stand tho first time, Taiieriri was running clear of Corinax and Orazone, with Cashier, Yoma and In the Shade together. The order at tho six furlong peg was Corinax and TanCriri almost on terms, with two lengths to Orazone, then Yoma and Cashier. Tho favourite had tho advantage at the half mile and In the Shade had rotired to the rear. Taneriri came again and crossing tho top was holding the favourite, with an interval of three lengths to Orazone and Yoma, with Shrewd a similar distance further away. Taneriri was clear of Corinax as they turned for home, with Orazone two lengths away and Yoma next. Orazone issued a strong challenge at tho half distance but she could not sustain it, neither could Corinax make any impression on the loader, which beat him by one and a half lengths, with Orazone two lengths back. Ysma was next, followed by Shrewd, Cashier and In the Shade.

Another Encore. Cadland was a pronounced favourite for the Matarawa Hack Handicap, with £.1034, while Limosin, tho winner, was entrusted with £647. Joy Heim took up the role of pacemaker, closely followed by Abbey Queen, PeVcnnis and Green Acre, with Limosin, Zarene, Cadland and Potoaform included in tile next bunch. Crossing the top, Joy Germ was holding off Abbey Queen, Limosin and Zarene, with Cadland, Green Acre and Perennis next. ZaTone slipped back a little before the straight was reached but at tho distance, Limosin drew out with Kentish Lad following and Peronnis also coming up to tho front line. Limosin beat Perennis in a thrilling finish by a very narrow margin. Kentish Lad was two lengths away, then, in order, came Joy Germ, Cadland, Green Acre, Zarene, Potoaform and Abbey Queen. Moa Bird Strides Out.

The withdrawal of Ridgcmount and Fernden made a five horse race of the Farewell Handicap, for which Ankinm was a big favourite. His sbaro ot the pool was £1429, with £971 on Acora and £948 on Moa Bird. Ankmui drew the ace and led out from Accra and Freehold. Then Acora ran to tho front and opened up a gap from An 'inui and Freehold, with Moa Bird and Keddar after a further interval. Ihese two drew up behind the leaders as they turned into the straight, and Moa Bird joined issue with Arikmui, Acora soon crying enough. It was a nec and neck struggle to the judge, Moa Bird getting the verdict by a head with Keddar finishing on three-quarters of a length behind Ankmui. Acora was fourth and Freehold last. It was a good performance on the part of the winner, for under the track conditions, the time was good.
