North Otago Without Hydro-Electric Power
RETICULATION DIFFICULTIES WATER SHORT AND TOWER COLLAPSES For Press Association. OAMARU, Last Night. Owing to the shortage of the water supply and the delay occasioned by difficult working conditions in the erection of the new tower to convey the hydro-electric power lines across the Waitaki river in placo of tho tower which collapsed last week, North Otago is now practically without electricity. The Power Board, finding it impossible to carry on with the stand-by plant, owing to the water shortage, has made arrangements to-night to supply power to the public hospital and the North Otago Times office, otherwise Oamaru is in darkness.
No power is being supplied to the surrounding district, with the exception of the Atvakino main line, which is conveying electricity to the new hydro scheme there. It is hoped to have a line across tho Waitaki from the Coleridge scheme late to-morrow afternoon.
