HON. C. E. HUGHES SUCCEEDS. United Press Association. —By Electric Telegraph.—Copyright. Received Tuesday, 7 p.m. WASHINGTON, Feb. 3. The Chief Justice of the United States, the Hon. W. H. Taft, resigned on Monday. His condition of health is believed to be the reason. Mr. Taft is a former President of the United States. President Hoover has nominated the Hon. Charles Evans Hughes, a former Secretary of State, to succeed Mr. Taft.
