Fairhall Fights Even Battle With Hancock

MATCH FOR WELTER TITLE. United Press Association.—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright. Received Saturday, 2 a.m. SYDNEY, Jan. 17. At the Leichhardt stadium to-night, the fight for tho welter-weight championship, over fifteen rounds, drew a huge attendance. Tommy Fairhall (9.134) fought a draw with Wally Hancock (10.4 J) the title-holder. It was a hard contest. Hancock, who was doing most of the leading, was in trouble in tho fourth, while Fairhall was floored in the seventh. Hancock was down twice for the count of nine in the' eleventh and when ho rose, he planted a fierce punch on Fairhall’s eye, which was damaged. Fairhall showed fine generalship, evading much punishment but Hancock took more than his share of body punches.
