Mr. and Mrs. Cyril Dermer and Miss Bee Dermer, of Cheltenham, intend visiting England early in the new year. Mr. and Mrs. John Graham, of Feilding, are spending the holidays at Plimmerton. lington at the end of the week to spend • the holidays with his mother, Mrs A. M. Howell. Miss Jean Younger returned from Palmerston North to her home. Cinder Hill, on Thursday. Miss Lela Astwood, of Wellington, is spending Christmas with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jas. Astwood, at Mangaore. Mrs Sydney Johnston, of ‘ ‘ Orua Wharo,” Takapau, is spending a short visit in Palmerston North with Mr and Mrs H. N. Watson. The Misses A. and P. Comfoot, of “Grecnlea, ” Halcom.be, will accompany their father on a trip to England early in the new year. Mr. and Mrs. Guy Goodbohere, of Feilding, left by car over the week for Morrinsville to spend tho holidays with Mrs. Goodbehero’s parents. Miss Una Castles, M.A., of the staff of the Palmerston North Girls’ High School, has resigned to take up an appointment at Wellington Girls’ College. Misses Alice and Mavis Johansen left Palmerston North on Friday, en route for Sydney. Miss A. Johansen will resume her studies at the Wallroonga sanitarium and hospital. The engagement is announced of Annie Catherine Ferris youngest daughter of Mr and Mrs W. E. F. Odgers, Kopane, to Alfred George, youngest son of Mr and Mrs G. Brock, Eauwhata. Miss Alison Green who on Friday arrived home for the Christmas vacation is to he congratulated upon having passed her intermediate examination and securing three firsts and a second prize in her form at the Wanganui Girls’ College. Mi eta K. Fraser, a Rangitikei patient in a private hospital for the past few months, aged 84, left for Wanganui by ear last week. After a severe operation, with the aid of a local anaesthetic only, she has been completely restored to Jier usual good health. The ninety-second birthday of Mrs. M. E. Hoopear, of 24 Abbot’s Road, Mount Eden, a pioneer settler of the Auckland province, was.-celebrated on Saturday. The TaraweA eruption is one of the many interesting events in days long gono by of which Mrs Hooper has personal memories.
