Druids Appoint Their New Grand Secretary

BRO. J. LAUGHTON, WELLINGTON.

A conference of 86 delegates of the Grand Lodgo of Druids of the North Island was held in Palmerston North yesterday for the purpose of electing a Grand Secretary in place of Bro. J. N. Grant (Wellington) who has resigned after 20 years of office. There were 15 applicants for the position from whom the Grand Treasurer, Bro. J. Laughton (Wellington) was chosen. He will be installed in office in Wellington in January, when the executive will appoint a Grand Treasurer to tako his place.

Those present at yesterday’s gathering were: —Grand President F. Jackson (Palmerston North) (in the chair), Grand Vice-President Bro. G. Lethaby (Auckland), Grand Secretary Bro. Grant (Wellington), Grand Treasurer Bro. Laughton (Wellington), Grand Guardian Bro. F. Mawhinncy (Wellington), and Junior Past Grand President Bro. T. Wilson (Auckland). The retiring secretary was the recipient of a framed Past Grand Secretary’s diploma and Past Grand Secretary’s collar and is the only one to hold these honours in New Zealand. The presentation was made by Bro. Laughton, who has been closely associated with him in the work of the lodge.
