Lytton Street School

MEETING OF COMMITTEE.

k The committee of the Lytton Street School met on Tuesday night, Mr James Penny, presiding. There were also present Mesdames A. E. Sandford and A. C; McCorkindale and Messrs'J. S. Tingey, H. Parsonage, W. G. Short, R. Heald", T. K. Hay and H. G. Hall (headmaster). The headmaster’s report stated that the attendance had shown great improvement during the past month, owing partly to the improved weather conditions and the fact that the annual examinations were on.' The roll at the end of the month stood at 340, with an average attendance of 326. The examinations were now completed with the exception- of the .proficiency 'tests, which would be held to-day. Of the-37 pupils in standard VI., 22 had been exempted. Regarding the school grounds, Mr Hall reported that the grass in the playground needed cutting and it would be necessary to. arrange for someone to cut. the grass on the. lawns' during the vacation. The school clocks required attention and the pupils were quietly practising for the forthcoming school concert'.

In' receiving the report, it was decided. to leave the matter of cutting the grass in the hands of the secretary. A vote of thanks, was accorded the ladies of the committee for their efforts in connection with the acquiring of the school honours board and in raising the money to cover the cost Of lettering; A letter was received from the Wanganui Education Board' pointing out that there was no financial year ag far as subsidies were concerned and that applications, for' subsidies could t be lodged at' any time. . .'phe: committee agreed to provide, a dux.medal'as previously and. this was left to Mrs Sandford to attend to. The breaking-up ■ ceremony will be held' on the afternoon of December .19.. .Accounts amounting to' £ll 4s 7d w6re passed .for payment.
