The agricultural returns of England and Wales'show that in 1929 the- total acreage under all crops and grass was 25.437,000, showing a decrease of 68,COO acres.
The area under permanent grass was 35,489,000 acres, being an increase of 93,000 acres. With regard to domestic stock, the number of sheep during 1929 was 16,103,400, showing a decrease of 296,200, while the number of cattle was 5,956,000, being a decrease of 70,400. Even in dairy cows in piilk there was a decrease from 2,066,500 i in 1928 to 2,053,600 in 1929.-
