Manawatu Amateur Swimming Centre
DISTRICT ACTIVITIES. The Manawatu Amateur Swimming Centre’s monthly meeting was held last ovening, with the president (Mr. A. D. Campbell) in the chair. There were also present Messrs W. Schwartz, A. R. Cliffe, A. J. Fairweather, F. R. Lewis, J. A. Walsh, G. F. Fahey, D. A. Smellie, C. Anderson and R. Haddon (secretary). k The Dannevirko Club suggested, considering the fact that there was an insufficient number of Centre championship events to go round all clubs, that a relay championship event be drawn up and that the event be staged for the first occasion at its carnival.
Owing to the fact that the. Levin Club staged that event, it was decided to place three-additional events on the championship list. The three clubs without a championship were Pahiatua, Apollo and Dannovirke, and the events allotted were SO yards men’s free style, 50 yards men’s backstroke and 100 yards ladies’ breaststroke respectively. The Feilding Club wrote asking for the centre’s co-operation in handicapping, as it was unable to secure anyone to fill the position. —It was decided to leave the matter in the hands of the centre handicappers and the club.
A letter was received from the new-ly-formed Terrace End Club, asking that the affiliation fees to the N.Z. A.S.A. 100 held over until next season, as the members were mainly juniors, and it would enable the club to get on its feet.—This request was acceded to. In Tcply. to a letter from the centre, the Levin Club wrote that it would be in a position to affiliate this yCar. Mr. Fahey moved that the ■ Levin Club be asked to pay the £1 Us fid affiliation fee of last year in addition to this year’s subscription.and also to forward a list of this season’s registered members.
Mr. Cliffe moved an amendment that the club should forward a list of members who had won trophies at carnivals organised by clubs affiliated to the centre, and that winners bo asked to return tho trophies to the clubs from which they were won, also that a list of members who p.aid subscriptions last year be forwarded to the centre. Mr. Fahey’s motion was carried. . The following carnival dates wore confirmed:—FeUding* January 3 (in connection with the tour of tho Australian champions, Byan and Griffiths);. Y.M.C.A., January 27; Terrace* End, February 6; Palmerston North, second carnival, February 22; Pahiatua, Feb-
ruary 14; Foxton, March 1; Dannevirke, February 12. Notification of the various club colours forwarded to the centre secretary, were: T.M.C.A., red yellow and black; Terrace End, blue and black; Apollo, blue and gold. Dannevirke 'and Feilding both forwarded their colours a 3 blue and white, and it was decided to writo to these clubs, with. a list of colours selected by other clubs and to let them arrange the matter between themselves.
Mr. Fahey stated that there was a possibility of securing the 1931 New Zealand championships for Palmertson North, irrespectivo of having representation at the conference to be held at Groymouth in. January and' moved that application be made for the 1931 New Zealand amateur swimming l Championships to be held in Palmerston North. —This was carried unanimously./ : 1 On the motion of Mr. Lewis, 1 it was decided that clubs be asked to form polo teams, and that, fixtures be drawn up by the centre in order that regular matches could be played. —This was carried. Acoounts passed for payment amounted to £3 11s.
