GUY FAWKES CELEBRATIONS From Our Own Correspondent. Weather conditions proved ideal for the sth,, the evening being warm, calm and dark. To the gratification of the school children the local population turned out en masse and, judging by the array of cars and motor cycles parked round about the hall and school, one would have supposed the occasion to be at least that of the annual district ball. Forms had been placed at tho back of the school for the convenience of the ladies, and promptly at 8 o’clock the large stack of brushward some distance away was set alight. Instantly tne flames shooting skyward lit up the landscape for miles around, and it was only a matter of minutes before Guy Fawkes, grinning broadly, was sucked down into the raging inferno and reduced to a handful of ashes. The display of fireworks that followed was most spectacular and afforded much entertainment to the onlookers for about an hour and a half. An adjournment was later made to the hall, where community singing was indulged in till a late hour, old-time and present day songs being rendered with much enthusiasm. Tho evening, brought to a close with “Auld Lang Syne” and the National Anthem, was voted by all a most enjoyablo one and will long bo remembered by the children, to whom the memory of Guy Fawkes is a blessing indeed.
