THE OLD MAIN GIVES OUT AGAIN.—The 24-inch cast iron main which brings Wainui water to Wellington once again gave out, about half way along the Hutt road, late on Wednesday afternoon. The main was laid in accordance with the old road line, before the straightening and widening was carried out a good many years ago, and so is beneath the bitumen in some lengths, on the sea side in others, and on the inner side, in other lengths, again. Fortunately, the break on Wednesday occurred at a weak spot well clear of the bitumen—the water bubbling out on the left in the photograph—and though it poured out t o the edge of the track traffic was in no way interfered with.
