PROPOSED NEW RABBIT BOARD. SUGGESTION TO LINK UP WITH MANAWATU BOARD. From Our Own Correspondent. A meeting of interested landowners in tlio Iloiwkenna diistriet was held in the Municipal Chambers, Levin, last week, when tho question of fonning a Rabbit Board was fully discussed. Among those in attendance were Mr B. Wright (principal inspector for the Wellington district), Mr M. R. Findlay (Wellington inspector) and Mr D. R. Barron (inspector for the Manawatu Rabbit Board). Mr Findlay submitted a plan showing the area considered suitable to be placed under the board’s jurisdiction. This area would be bounded by a line drawn upstream from the mouth of the Otalci river for a good distance, then branching oil! in a north-wesiterley direction along the Rahui road to the railway line which is followed to Pukehou, then northward at an average distance of three miles from the coast to the Olxau river, which is followed for a short distance, thence northward in the direction of Buller Lane and Horowhenua Lake to Poroatawkao, from where tho main highway is followed to the Whirokino bridge. The northern boundary of this area is marked by a line drawn from the Whirokino bridge to the mouth of the Manawatu river. The chairman of the meeting (Mr W. C. Hannan) tabled full particulars concerning the formation of a.board and details of its operations. He apologised for the absence of Mr F. S. Easton who was fully conversant with the .position in.the district and very.much in favour of the formation of the proposed board. He also apologised for Mr T. G. Vincent who also was in favour of the proposal. After a short discussion, the mooting unanimously resolved to make every endeavour to form- a Rabbit Board in the Horowhenua district in accordance with the plan submitted by Mr Findlay. It was also decided to make an endeavour to link up with the Manawatu Ralbbit Board, whose headquarters are at Foxton. Arrangements were then made for a petition to be circulated for signature by the landowners in the proposed district and the following gentlemen were appointed to attend to the matter: — Messrs F. Holmes, S. Simeox, J. Hill, W. C. Hannan, S. Jackson and T. G. Vincent. Mr T. Winiata was deputed to interview the'native landowners. A hearty vote of thanks was accorded Messrs Wright, Findlay and Barron.
