CULTIVATE CHARM
I should say to every girl who wishes to develop character or charm oi personality —call it what you will — that a certain amount of cultivation is necessary. But it should never bo sufficient to make one artificial or affected. There arc many little things that reward careful watching; they may be quite wrong, but once one is aware of them one can put them right. Tor in-" stance, if a girl has an ugly speaking voice—one that is nasal, harsh, or strident —she can modulate it in such a way as to produce a totally different effect; and at once she will make a better impression. The great secret with every fault we wish to chango is to cultivate the attributes that make for charm.
Then, again, character is based on a cultured mind. We cannot all boast the benefits of an expensive education, but there is nothing to prevent any of us from “keeping up with things” by reading the best current literature, seeing plays and so on.
