BRITISH & FOREIGN BIBLE SOCIETY
Despite most inclement weather there was a large attendance at the Methodist Church, Mangaweka, on Monday afternoon. The Kcv. W. Wilsftn prosided and invited Mrs. Porter (organising secretary from Wellington) to address the gathering. The speaker outlined the aims and objects of the society and the wonderful growth in translations and distribution of copies since its inception. The number of languages the Scriptures are now sent out in are 886, of which the Bible Society is responsible for 618, truly a remarkable philogical achievement of the missionaries and translators. The number of copies of Scriptures issued since the foundation of the socioty were 397,237,795, a truly wonderful record. The work of the Colporteurs was also described and various other aspects of the work. It was decided to form a branch, the following being elected: —President, Mr. Laurie Rose; vice-presidents, Mesdames Moss and Wilson; secretary, Mrs. Len Rose; collectors, Misses Connie Martin, Lucy Boshier; Mangamaire, Miss Eva Carey; Euahine, Mrs. Billingliurst. Much pleasure was expressed that Ruahme was represented. Mrs. Porter stated she had wanted to start a branch at Rangiwahia for years, but only through the valuable help of the Rev. W. Wilson had it been possible now and sho expressed much appreciation of the line work done in connection with the meeting and thanked all present for coming through such wot and stormy weather. All present were keen and enthusiastic. The singing of the “Doxology” brought a very successful meeting to a close.
