THE DAIRY INDUSTRY

KAIRANGA DAIRY CO. LTD. The annual report to be presented at the twenty-second annual general meeting of the Kairanga Dairy Co. Ltd., to be held-to-day, reads as follows: "The season opened under most favourabe weather conditions and continued so, with a resultant satisfactory increase in the output, approximately 18 per cent, greater than last year. Values of both butter and cheese have, on the whole, been very satisfactory, though the recent break in the cheese market was unexpected. The board pursued the policy of selling and consigning according to the market prospects, and the result were very pleasing. On the manufacturing side, we must report favourably. The quality of our products has been maintained at a high standard. The cost of manufacture shows a gratifying decrease. During the year we made a quantity of standardised cheese, and the experiment was quite profitable. 'The product was well received on the market and we intend to make standardised cheese at our factories next year. The store department accounts record a further increase in sales and show a nice profit. The activities of this branch have been, widened somewhat during the year, and suppliers are urged to give it their whole-hearted support. Financial assistance to suppliers was granted from time to time. These accounts are in a satisfactory condition, and no losses have been made. The nett balances for appropriation are— Factory account, £6,102 16s. 9d; store account, £1,047 14s Cd. And these your directors recommend to be disposed of as follows —(1) In making a further payment on butterfat supplied for cheese manufacture of Id per lb.
