'REMITS TO CONFERENCE. Tho twelfth annual general meeting and convention of the New Zealand Motor Trade Association ie this year to be held in Palmerston North in conjunction with the New Zealand wholesale Motor and Cycle Traders' Association Ltd. The conference will extend over three days, commencing on September 17 and delegates will be extended a civic reception by the Mayor, Mr. A. J. Graham. Altogether 27 remits have been, received from the various associations and included among these arc matters dealing with the sale of petrol, proposed alterations' to the Factories Act, whereby the. working hours are supplemented with overtime rates after a 44 hour week and matters pertaining to the Government third party scheme. The Te Kuiti Association advances the view that an emphatic protest be forwarded to the Govfirnment against its action in withdrawing the £200,000 subsidy from tho Highways Board Fund on the grounds that it is a breach of faith and will interfere with the reading policy as well as being opposed to original promises made when imposing the petrol tax. - It is also resolved to review the tyre policy of the Dominion while it is desired that the whole transport problem of New Zealand be considered by the newly formed Transport -Advisory Board. Another interesting remit is the question of adopting uniformity with by-laws in view of the steady increase in the number of motor vehicles being used on New Zealand roads. Reports will also be received from tlic technical training committee and the benevolent fund.
