“BOBBY” CALF INDUSTRY

ACTIVITY IN WAIKATO. There is considerable activity in thi bobby-calf industry, and the Horotii’ Freezing Works is operating at practically its maximum capacity. The Government inspector at Horotiu, Mr. R. Toulson, said calves were being sent forward in much better condition than in previous years. Whereas last season 20 per cent, had been rejected at present was only 2. Very few of the animals were bruised, and all cruelty was avoided in handling them. They were killed soon aftor arriving at the works, and in strict order of rotation.

In discussing the industry, Mr. Jj Lyons, director of the livestock division of the Department of Agriculture, expressed pleasure at the improved quality of the animals. He said he was pleased to see that farmers were taking better care of calves that were sent to the freezing works.
