WHIPPET RACING AT CHRISTCHURCH
GRAND NATIONAL MEETING. MANAWATU DOGS FAIL IN FINALS Special to Times. CHRISTCHURCH, Last Night. The Grand National Whippet meeting was held at New Brighton racecourse on Saturday in beautiful weather, thero being a large attendance of the public. The track was very hard as a result of the previous week’s fine weather and good racing was the order of tho day. The two Palmerston North dogs, Giggles and Gold Dust entered tho finals in their respective races, the Winter Cup and Grand National Hurdles, but suffered defeat. The Winter Cup time of II 9-10 secs was a record for the race—had it not been so fast, Giggles probably would have been placed. Gold Dust fell while well in tho running for the hurdles and pulled up lame and semi-conscious. Results of tho racing were:— Grand National Hurdles. Final, 200 yards, over six flights of hurdles Miss L. Fitzsimmons’s Princess Rose 15yds, I Mr. A. Masson’s Lone Star, scr 2 Also started: Gold Dust 6yds. (fell); Rosenor 6yds., Betty 23yds., and Miss Comedy scr. Time 14 I-ssecs. Burwood Handicap. Final, 200 yards. Miss Grenfell’s Colleen, Byds. 3 Mrs. H. J. Fitzsimmons’s Gold Tinge, syds ” Also Btarted: Jenny 15yds, Brown Betty l'Oyds., Winning Hit 17yds., and Babs 17yds. Time, 12 2-ssecs. Winter Cup. Final, 200 yards. Mrs. H. J.
