lANAWATU BEATS WANGANUI 10-5 In Spectacular Game special to Times. A representative soccer football match Manawatu versus Wanganui played at Cook’s gardens in the river port city on Saturday, resulted in a win for the Palmerston North team by 10 goals to five. Bain fell prior to the commencement of the game and made going bad but despite this factor, play was of a very high standard. Although the number of goals scored was extraordinary for an association fixture, Wanganui was a strong team having defeated Taranaki twice and the visitors did not have it all their own way. The positional play of the Mnnawatu eleven pretty to watch and it was to this that such high scoring can be attributed.

Manawatu had the better of the opening exchanges and after several attempts in which it pressed Wanganui hard, Kidd let the greens in by hanging on too long . John fastened himself to the leather and beat Martin, the goalie, with a brilliant shot.

Wanganui had several chances following this but the home side failed to grasp the advantage gained and then the custodian was called upon to save twice in rapid succession.

A fast run by McSkeffry brought another goal, this player registering with a hot shot, while a little later the Manawatu forwards found another gap for Corkindale to score. Yet another point was registered by Manaw-atu a moment later.

The Wanganui forwards came back onto the attack with renewed energy and after Tarrant had staved off Jones, he was called to face another offensive. Heath seeurod and got through to open the account for Wanganui.

A hot attack by the visitors found the home defence all at sea, John shooting past the net. The greens came back again, however, and Corkindale made no mistake. A few moments later Goodall secured from John to bead out of Martin’s reach into the citadel.

Manawatu was playing a great game and giving an excellent exhibition of the code. Wanganui was also playing well and reversed an offensive for Holland to miss narrowly. A penalty was next awarded to the home side, which was turned to account by Holland, the spell ending.—Manawatu 6, Wanganui 2-

Shortly after the commencement, from a penalty awarded Wanganui, Dickson put one in. Brilliant play by Young and Goodall then put Corkindale in position but the last mentioned player missed when well in. Offside play next halted' the homo side but shortly afterwards, Jones crossed to Holland, who netted. Corkindale responded with another for Manawatu and Heath then beat Tarrant, the visiting goalie. Goodall beat Neilson and left Martin no chance and McSheffry was responsible for the remainder.
