MEMORIAL TABLET

HALCOMBE METHODIST CHURCH A large and representative congregation was present at the Halcombs Methodist Church yesterday morning when a memorial tablet was unveiled in commemoration of those at one time connected with the church, who have passed to their reward. The tablet of marble, in rimu frame, is inscribed with eighteen names of and women who served in the church in days gone by. In unveiling the memorial, the Hon. J. G. Cobbe expressed his appreciation at being asked to take part in the service. He knew well many whose names were inscribed on the tablet and paid high tribute to their uprightness and integrity. The church and the com-' munity owed much to those who had rendered such faithful and devoted service in former days. The service was conducted by the Rev. Fred Copeland, chairman of the Hawke’s Bay-Manawatu district of the Methodist Church, who gave an appropriate address on the text “Other men laboured, and ye arc entered into their labour.’’ Hymns suitable to the occasion were sung, and during the service Miss Ivy Hughes rendered the solo, “Nearer, my God to Thee.’’ At seven o’clock, another large congregation was present when the Rev. 11. Thornley preached on “Standing in the Gap."
