SCHOOL COMMITTEE MEETING From Our Own Correspondent. The monthly meeting of the Stanwav school committee was held on Tuesday evening, there being present Mrs. A. ;M. Howell (school mistress), Messrs. Enos. Christian (chairman), R. Oockburn, A. Callingham and J. Parsons who was elected to the position vacated by Mr. Norman Anderson. It was decided that Arbour Day should be celebrated on Wednesday next. Following the planting of a number of dowering shrubs which the committee is purchasing for the occasion, a football match that should prove of great interest will place place, Stanway and Tokorangi school boys versus Halcombe. Afternoon tea will be dispensed iu the school by the pupils; parents and friends being cordially invited to attend. A new football is to be brought into use for the match on Arbour Day, the funds for which will be contributed jointly by committee and boys. Varirepairs are to be effected at the school and a new saddle shed is to be erected, the need for this having being felt for some time past, Cribbage. On Monday evening, a friendly cribbage match was played in the local hall between the fetanway and Waituna teams, about 44 players participated and a thoroughly enjoyable time was spent. The match terminated in a win tor Stanway of 71 to 01. Football. On Wednesday afternoon, the Stanway school-boys’ football team, comprising Jack Parsons (captain), Walter Groves, Keith Marshall, Kenneth Parsons, Billy Colo, Teddy Dernier, Errol Craine and Dick Marshall (emergency) journeyed to Tokorangi to play a seven-a-side match against the boys of that school. From the outset the home team had everything in its favour and although the Tokorangi lads sportingly played barefoot during the second spell, also allowed Stanway eight players, even those concessions proved of little benefit to the visitors, who were not by any means up to their usual* form/ Owing to the after-effects of a very bad bout of influenza and plemracy, Ned Robinson, one of the heftiest of lh e Stanway team, was unable to take the field and undoubtedly his ab■sence was severely felt. The game ended 23-nil in Tokorangi’s favour. Afternoon tea later served in the school was dono full justice to by the visitors.
