Monthly Meeting

The meeting of Woodville County council, was held yesterday. Those present were Cra. M. 0. Grainger (chairman), L. Williams, G. Peebles, B. H. Morgan, 11. Sheffield, B. H. Norman, J. Galloway and the acting overseer (Mr. E. Pilchard). Lightless Bicycles. The Hawke’s Bay Automobile association wrote drawing attention to the “ligktless bicycle” menace and suggesting that county councils might as sist in enforcing the regulations. The chairman moved that the request bo complied with. He had also recoived complaints concerning child ren dawdling around and then going on the roads at dark. He considered the Woodville police deserved to be congratulated on the efforts being made to remove this menace. Cr. J. Galloway endorsed the chairman’s remarks and the resolution nus

carried. ft was also decided that the traffic, inspector be notified and action bo taken in all cases. Ngawapurua Bridge. The Wairarapa Automobilo association wrote asking if anything had been done to the corner of the combined railway and traffic bridge at Ngawapurua, as the association had previously offered to assist with the cost. The chairman said there had been delays from various causes outside the council’s control. Pirc clerk was instructed to inform the Wairarapa Automobile association that the work would be proceeded with as only as possible. The association also drew attention to tho accumulation of metal on the side of the road apprm.ehing the Mnn-a-watu Gorge bridge and asking that the council have it graded, the metal having already been the alleged cause ot cue accident, which, might have been attended with serious results. _ The association is to be informed that the Woodville county road is tarsealcd up to the Gorge bridge and that it is evident sonic mistake has been made.

Erosion at Kiritaki,

The Kiritaki Co-op. Dairy Co. wrote drawing atten.ion to the erosion of the Oroua-Kintaki stream on the Husband estate property, about a chain abo\e the bridge adjoining the factory, the fear being expressed that the safety of the company’s property was being endangered ,and asking that the council’s engineer inspect. _ The chairman said he had visited the stream in company with the cngineois. He had informed the secretary of the dairy company of the position and if further information was required, he was quite prepared to attend a directors’ meeting and explain the position to them. General. Mi' NY. A. Lyon for D. McCool, holder of the lease of section 24, block IX. Tahoraite, s.d.; wrote asking consent for the assignment of the lease to Ronald C. Robb, the reason being that the lessor will probably be leaving the district. —Agreed to. The NVoodvillc Chamber of Commerce wrote asking that the metalling of the Bahahaekc track be completed as it could be utilised as a shorter slock route by baek country farmers. —Received. The following transfers were. approved: —L. H. Higgins to His Majesty the King; A. Dickens to A. C. Nowell and J. G. Bieknell; the King to Irene S Leslie; F. Davis to M. Burlace; S. Hill to C. F. Baker, F. J. Ralph to K Lovell; C. A. Gibson to Edward J. Smith. Satisfactory Finances. The clerk reported that the various funds were still in a satisfactory condition, tho county fund being in credit £1570 14s 9d., the main road loan account in credit £3OO 13s Bd, and the machinery loan in credit £ls 2s 2d. Since last meeting more of last year's rates had come in and there teas no-w outstanding only £9 16s lOd. Authority for the usual overdraft of £4OOO at the bank was arranged and the paysheets for May (£1535 5s Od) and June (£IO2B 2s 2d) wore passed for payment.

Overseer’s Report. i The acting overseer reported on the work of the month as follows: — i Woodville riding: Patching has been done on Sowry’s, Pinfold, Oxford and Oxenham’s roads, also two loads of metal dumped on Saddle road hill. Watcrtables and slips have been elcan- ' ed out on Saddle and Whariti roads. ! Mangn-atua riding: Patching has i been done on Range, Ormond’s Priest’s ; and Sturdy’s roads. Grading has been •done on Troup’s road. Set of pipes have been put in on Tnrtank road, three 6ft Din pipes. Watcrtables cleaned on Jackson’s road. : Kumeroa riding: Repairs to ford at McKay’s Gorge, and ordinary surface work. Malvarahara riding: Patching done on Freeland’s, Ross and Lovcday’s roads. Set of pipes put in on Free--1 land’s road, four tiit by Ift. Groyne !on Gaisford’s road has been filled in with earth. Kearney’s crossing has been repaired. : Woodvillc-Palmerston North No. 1: , Watertabling and patching; five men for one day. Napier-Wellington via Wuirarapa Nos. 2-5: Patching, watertabling and i clearing slips; three men for 13 days, j Daimler one clay metal patching; Morris 12 days; grader ID days. Woodville-Hopolnnds No. 6: Watertabling arid patching; one man one day, Daimler 12 days patching, grading four days. Or. had been broken by people carting out metal and it was suggested that the council got Mr. Nelson’s consent to the erection of a gate to be kept locked ami thus protect tho pit from the general public. —Decided that the overseer interview Mr Nelson for this purpose.
