ALL SAINTS’ GOLDEN OFFERING

The objective of the Golden Offering appeal of the All Saints’ Church_ tomorrow is £7OO. This is an ambitious sum to hope to raise by direct offerings made during the course of otic day, but- if only tho parishioners could realise the wonderful service and help both direct and indirect which _ their church gives to them, to their children and to society as a whole, tho result of the objective being reached would never be in doubt. Some of the reasons which prompted the vestry in its decision not to hold the usual* spring fair or bazaar this year, but to make this direct appeal, were:—

(1). The ideal method of subscribing to the church is by direct giving. "(2). A bazaar or other similar function places a great burden on a comparative few,, entailing as it docs months of labour and preparation, whilst a golden offering entails practically no preparation whatever. (3) About 25 per cent, of money given indirectly through a bazaar is eaten up by expense, whereas every penny given direct goes straight to the credit of the church. (4) The vestry feels confident that the great body of All Saints’ parishioners take a real pride in the history of their parish, and realise that the church is truly one of the foundation stones upon which the welfare of the State is built. (5) Finally it is felt that parishioners will welcome the opportunity of expressing to Canon Eancourt on the eve of his departure their appreciation of his great service to the parish. The attainment of the desired objective would certainly be a splendid finale to his term of office.

Upon the result of the golden offering will depend the future financial policy of the church, and will decide whether the parishioners can be relied upon to give direct rather than have recourse to bazaars and similar methods. The final figures will be made public at tlie. close of the service to-morrow evening.
