Dannevirke
From Our Own Correspondent.
A pleasant evening was tendered to Mr. H. F. Carston, of tho Presbyterian Church, Mangatera, on Wednesday. Mr. Carston, who has taken over tho Sunday services, was met by a. number of his friends. Musical items which were appreciated were rendered by the following:—Mrs. I. Bain, Misses J. Thompson, Betty Thompson, V. Munroe, Grace Thompson, G. Brown, M. Dalziell, Messrs C. Little and C. and R. Dalzeill. The Rev. J. Thomas Macky introduced Mr. Carston, and asked for the full co-operation of the congregation in supporting their new preacher. A dainty supper concluded the evening. Mr. Brooking, who for some years past has held the position of factory manager to the Kiritaki Co-op. Dairy Co., Ltd. was farewelled by his many friends at a social which took place on Wednesday evening in tho local school. Mr. Sanders presented Mr. Brooking with a handsome gift as a token of the settlers’ appreciation of his service in the district. Mr. O’Hagan supplied excellent music for the evening. Members of the Dannevirke Hunt club are reminded that the hunt at Rakautatahi to-morrow will meet at tho Takapau hotel, and on_Manday, July 1 at, Mr. R. A. Fraser’s estate, Takapau. Very stormy weather is being experienced by motorists in the Umatao-roa-Rua Roa district. There -was a severe hail storm on Thursday morning.
