DAFFODILS

A gray day in an English city. Suddenly round a corner we come upon them, a golden glow, in the flower baskets at the pavement edge. In that instant their magic lias taken us back to our childhood; wo see happy children picleing 'bunches of them in a land of never-failing daffodils. What promises did they wnisper to us then? What lovely fulfilments have come? And lo! in that moment the street shines with their brightness, and the grayness has gone. The flower sellers are* magicians, the flowers the magic they use. With this foretaste of summer upon us the magic carries us away to tho south of France, with its gaiety, sunshine and flowers. Back to our hearts comes the joy of remembrance. Is it tho sun shining in the street, or just the glory of the daffodils? We needs must buy and carry away some of this magic glow.
