PERMANENT HOME FOR ROYAL SHOW
BUSINESS MEN JOIN PROTEST. • Tire proposal to make the Royal Show > a permanent fixture in Wellington was > mentioned at yesterday’s meeting of the Palmerston North Chamber of Coin- > mcrec by the president (Mr. M. H. ' Oram) who pointed out that the matter ■vitally affected Palmerston North as 1 a place where Royal Shows were likely to be held frccpiently. The holding of Royal Shows in Palmerston North meant a good deal to the town from a business point of view. He moved that the chamber co-operate with the Manawatu A. and P. association in any protest that might be made. Mr. M. A. Eliott seconded, mentioning that the Auckland A. and P. association was voicing a protest. Prominent breeders had pointed out that a Royal Show iu Wellington would be useless and the result would be the show becoming an industrial exhibition instead of a show for stock. The promoters w'ero anxious to secure a large gate but overlooked the fact that the Royal Show was not an industrial fixture . By going to Wellington, the Royal Society would loose many of its country members. The motion was carried.
