CHATHAM CUP DATES FIXED BY COUNCIL

WELLINGTON, Last Night. The council of New Zealand Footbal association met to-night. Th.o followino* fixtures in tlie Oh-atlm-m cup ivcic made:— North Auckland v. South Auckland at Auckland, July 27; South Auckland v. Poverty Bay at Gisborne, July 27; Manawatu v. Wellington at Wellington, July 27; winners of No. 1 v. No. 2 ~on 'August 3; North Island final at Auckland, August 10; South Island final at Christchurch, August 10; final North v. South at Wellington, August 24. Tlioso dates arc to be strictly adhered to, in order that tiho final may be played, as arranged. August 3 was pencilled in for the Otago challenge v the winners of the Wellington-Auck-land F.A. trophy match, which is to be played on July 20. Mr. J. Wallace (Huntly) has been appointed referee for tho Brown Shield match at Hamilton or Huntly on July 13. Tho Auckland F.A. wrote that a levy of Is per player had been made to assist towards reducing tho bank overdraft, which would produce a good sum. . The Westland F.A. wrote enclosing £2 4s sd, percentage of the Pctei Dawson cup match, Westland v. Nelson and also a £lO donation. Westland also recommended Fred Caldwell for selection in the New Zealand schoolboys' team for Australia. The following cable was received from tho Australian Football Association council: “Wo desire Now Zealand to consider receiving an Australian team this year, the tour commencing at tho ond of July. 'We will pay all assembling, disposal of outfit and other terms as submitted, except players allowances. Will accept all round 5s a day from Sydney to Sydney. This should onablo Now Zealand to tour Australia next year . A strong team is available." It was decided that the offer could not be accepted owing to the difficulty of obtaining grounds at this late period of the season. The decision of England Football association was received in regard to the dispute between the Auckland and Canterbury associationa as to who were the winners of tho F.A. trophy in 1927. Mr. F. J. Wall wrote: “With regard to goal averages, it would appear from tho facts stated by you that Auckland had obtained 66 per cent, points and Canterbury 61 per cent points. This calculation is based on the system adopted by the premier leagues of this country." „ , , It was decided that the trophy be awarded to Auckland, as the winner for that season. , In reference to the proposed visit oi a New Zealand schoolboy team, it was decided that as no information could be obtained of the South Island Primary Schools Football association, the North Islands associations bo authorised to arrange a tour and select a team and that Mr. Harrison, of Auckland, be asked if the team can be assured. If tho reply is in the affirmative, a cable is to be sent to tho Australian F.A. asking if it can accept fl New Zealand boys 'team, leaving the Dominion on or about August 1.
