MOUTOA DRAINAGE BOARD.

A' special meeting of the Moutoa Drainage board toolc place last evening, those present being Messrs J. Chrystall, (in the chair), W. E. Barbcr S R Bryant, B. G. Gower, D. Purcell and the secretary (Mr A. Fraser.) The business of the meeting was to consider a communication from the Public Works department in reference to the proposed new stop-bank to be erected near the site of the old ShanAfter a long discussion tho following resolution was carried:-- “That m connection with the location of t c p posed stop-bank adjacent _to the oia Shannon bridge, an interview be arranged with Mr Eonaync, Public Works engineer, by the chairman and Trustee Barber, and failing satisfaction, that the Minister of Public Works be approached on tlie matter.’ It was stated that owing to flood waters coming over the bank near the old Shannon bridge, . settlers have found it necessary to form a working bee and are now busily engaged repairing the break. After discussing the position it was decided that the board agree to subsidise the erection of a temporary stopbank near the. old Shannon bridge to the extent of £IOO. A discussion then took place concerning a proposed channel from Duck creek to connect with the Main Drnin and to be fitted with floodgates to take the water off the low levels. A letter was drafted for submission to the property owners concerned soliciting their agreement to the scheme.
