The timber strike in Victoria is settled at last, but thv terms are yet to be ratified by tho various bodies concerned. The 44 hour week will be worked in certain sections of the trade ’and 48 hours in other sections. It again appears that tho Enginedrivers ' union will precipitate a general strike on the coalfields. Mr. Atkins, the union secretary, today made a statement which in effect repudiates tho undertaking of tho combined mining unions to accept the reduction of Is per ton if tho commission finds that tho owners’ profits aro less than two shillings per ton.
